Management and Strategy Institute Review

This organization offers training and certification in business skills. They focus primarily on a process improvement method called Six Sigma, but they also offer other skill certifications. They are one of the largest and most respected providers of online certifications, based on their independent reviews. The company is well recognized, with 39,000+ certification holders listed on LinkedIn.

Prices on certifications range from $50 to $400. The certifications are completed online and the price includes study material, so you may not need to spend extra money on training. Everything is included.

Management and Strategy Institute is one of the more well-known certification companies in the US. There are over 39,000+ professionals who list a certification on their LinkedIn profile. The company has been in operation since 2011 and state they have over 200,000 members. The organization is known to work with several fortune 500 companies and over 35 colleges to offer both training and certification services. The have an excellent rating with the Better Business Bureau and hold a CPD accreditation. The company is located in the United States, however they have members internationally as well.

MSI has a very good money-back policy, much better than most organizations.  They offer a full 30-day guarantee.  They are also veteran owned, with the company president serving in the USAF.  They were one of the only training companies to be recognized by both the US Senate (2014) and the White House (2020) for their work in providing “training and credentialing opportunities to thousands of Americans every year.”

The companies reputation is very solid.  Reviews.Education was able to find over 5300+ reviews online at the time of this writing.  The average review score was 4.8 out of 5.  This is an impressive review-count.  Our assessment indicates the high satisfaction level results from two elements.  First, MSI provides a lot of value for the money.  The 1-time fee includes study material, exam, physical certificate, physical transcripts, digital certificate, digital student records, and a digital badge.  That is much more than what other companies provide.  The second reason would be the cost/respectability ratio.  The programs are inexpensive but still provide a solid value to the holder in the business community.

Certifications Offered:

MSI appears to offer about 60 certifications at the time of this writing.  We looked at several, and even registered for one to assess the quality of the training and determine if these certifications held value.

  • Six Sigma White Belt Certification – MSI offers this program for free, so we registered.  The training material is easy to access and understand.  We really liked that we could download the material in PDF format and keep a copy.  Considering the course is free, this is a very good value.  The exam was harder than I expected, in fact I’m embarrassed to admit this but I failed the test on the first try.  I went back and re-read the material and passed the exam on the second try.  This certification is meant for business professionals who need to learn about process improvement.  It actually seems to be a valuable certification and I did add it to my Linkedin profile.  You can take the free program here if you’re interested.
  • Project Management Certification – I’m not sure if this certification would hold the same value as a PMI certification, but it’s only $199 for both the training and exam and it still seems respectable.  It covers all of the basic knowledge you’d need to perform project management tasks and it doesn’t have any prerequisites.
  • Resume Booster Package – This package is probably the best value on their website.  It’s $47 for 10 micro-certifications.  I haven’t bought it, but I’m seriously considering it.  The package includes 10 soft-skill certifications that should definitely help boost your resume and help it get past the resume-scanning software.

Philanthropic Work:

MSI advertises that they heavily donate to charity.  This appears to be accurate, with the listing of their work on their charity page.  This includes several pictures of team members making donations.  The donations listed go all the way back to 2014.

Process Improvement Methods:

Process improvement methods have been used heavily during the Covid and post-Covid era.  Businesses are now relying on process improvement tools more than ever to ensure they remain profitable.  MSI certifications really focus on the popular methods.  Beyond Six Sigma and Project Management they also focus on leadership certifications, continuous improvement management, and other manager-level certifications.  All of them have a process improvement theme to them.  If you work in the business world, these should be highly valued.

MSI has developed an international standard for Six Sigma certification (Body of Knowledge) that is followed by many organizations.

Customer Service:

Management and Strategy Institute customer service appears to be very fast and efficient.  We sent several requests through their online portal and received a response within 30 minutes.  All questions were answered quickly.  They also have an extensive FAQ section that answers just about every question you might have.

Management and Strategy Institute Coupons:

Q What happens if I don't pass my certification test on the first try?

If you do not pass the exam, you are given 2 additional attempts to pass the exam at no extra cost. There is a 24/hour waiting period between retakes, so that you can study areas you weren't strong in.

Q Can an employer verify my certification?

Yes, all certifications purchased directly on MSIcertified.com have the certification ID# entered into our verification database at MSIcertified.org. If an employer has your ID#, they can verify the certification.

Q Are there Prerequisites for your courses?

Most MSI certifications do not have prerequisites. Please read the descriptions of each certification which will list any prerequisites.

Q What's the difference between the Six Sigma and the Lean Six Sigma program?

The "Six Sigma" aspect of both Belt programs is exactly the same. The only difference is that the Lean Belt focuses a little more on Lean Principles. It looks at "Removing waste from a manufacturing or production cycle". Generally speaking, the three industries that use Lean the most are Manufacturing, Logistics, and Healthcare.

Veteran owned small business

5.0/ 5

I’m also a veteran so I like to support veteran owned companies like MSI. I took the free project management certification, then took the Six Sigma Yellow Belt. I received a raise at work already. Thanks MSI!

Six Sigma Black Belt

5.0/ 5

I got my Six Sigma Black Belt certification from this company last year. The material is very good and covers all of the topics you’ll need to understand before you take the test. I also like how they included an audiobook so I could listen to the material on my drive to work. I passed the exam on the first try.
